In the terrifying incident at Delhi airport, a flight of Air India reportedly caught fire in Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) on Wednesday night. According to reports, the fire was reported from Air India’s Delhi-San Francisco flight at the time of repair work. The plane was a Boeing 777.

Reports said the fire started in the Auxiliary Power Unit during AC repair. The incident took place at the Delhi airport. The fire started during AC repair when the plane was empty. The fire was doused immediately.

In a statement issued by the airlines, it said that black fumes were observed by airport fire personnel during a routine technical examination by an engineer. The airline also said a post-incident examination could not find any traces of burn or external damage except for some minor oil leak. Air India terms it minor incident and fire were doused immediately.

“Yesterday night, at Delhi, when an engineer was doing a routine technical examination of an empty aircraft (777), APU auto shut down took place. AIRPORT FIRE personnel observed BLACK FUMES from the APU exhaust and believing it to be a fire hazard, sprayed APU and part of the fuselage with foam spray.

After this event, APU was examined by opening its cowlings and there were no traces of any burn or external damage noticed except for the minor OIL leaks traces, which was normal. A detailed inspection is going on,” Air India said in the statement.
