Amethi MP and BJP leader Smriti Irani on Sunday reached to her constituency hours after her close aide was shot dead on Saturday night. The newly-elected MP lent a shoulder to mortal remains of her close aide Surendra Singh. The 50-year-old Singh, ex-village head of Barauli, was shot dead by unknown assailants at his residence.
Surendra Singh was frequently seen with Irani campaingin for her during Lok Sabha elections. Family members of Singh have put the blame on Congress workers, saying, "BJP got many votes from our booth."

"My father was a close aide of Smriti Irani&used to campaign 24/7. After she became MP, Vijay Yatra was carried out. I think some Congress supporters didn't like it,we have suspicions on some people," said son of Surendra Singh. The incident took place two days after Smriti Irani won Amethi Lok Sabha constituency seat.
The police have registered a case and investigation is on to nab the accused. According to reports in Time Now, the incident took place just a few kilometres away from the district headquarters of Gauriganj in Amethi.
A bike-borne on Saturday night reached his residence and fired indiscriminately at him. He was also shot on his face. “50-year-old Singh was referred to a government hospital in Lucknow but later succumbed to his injuries while he was getting treated,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram, PTI reported.
