Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh): Firozabad District Court has sentenced a 90-year-old man, Ganga Dayal, to life imprisonment for the gruesome murder of 10 Dalits. The shocking killings were carried out four decades ago in 1981.
Verdict and Penalty
The Court has handed down a life sentence to Ganga Dayal, along with a fine of Rs 55,000. Failure to pay the penalty will result in an additional 13 months of imprisonment.
Decades of Wait Ends, Victims' Families Speak Out
After enduring an agonizing wait, the surviving relatives of the victims have finally witnessed justice being served.
Maharaj Singh, a relative of one of the victims, expresses mixed emotions, acknowledging that while the conviction brings solace, it would have been more meaningful if it had arrived sooner and resulted in punishment for all the accused.
The case dates back to 1981 when 10 people from the Dalit community were murdered and two more were injured.
A case was registered against the 10 accused persons. Shikohabad police station was in Mainpuri district when this incident took place and it later merged with Firozabad after it was declared a separate district in 1989.
After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the ten accused in court. However, during the trial, 9 of the accused persons died.
