Uttar Pradesh: Muslim man upset with police probing son's death as suicide accept Hinduism along with family for justice

A Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpath embraced Hinduism after being upset over police probing his son's death as suicide rather than a murder. Seeking justice in son's death case, a Muslim along with 12 of his family members turned Hindu.

Akhtar Ali, a resident of Badarkha village under Chhaprauli police station area, turned Hindu from Muslim on Monday along with family so that police will now probe his son's death case properly. Akhtar later told media that he felt the religion change might spur police to “properly investigate his son’s murder”.

Akhtar Ali now Dharam Singh said, "My name was Akhtar Ali, I have changed my religion because the police did not investigate our case in a fair manner, even the Muslim community did not stand in our support. In Modi's India, Muslims not treated fairly. I demand justice."

Baghpat District Magistrate Rishirendra Kumar has confirmed the incident and said the family members changed their religion as they were not satisfied with the police probe into the death of Akhtar’s son a few months ago.

“These people were not satisfied with the probe into the death of one of their family members. The matter is being examined in consultation with the superintendent of police,” he said.

The family conducted religion rituals along with 'Hawan' to change their religion said Yuva Hindu Vahini (Bharat) state chief Shaukendra Khokhar on Tuesday. He also said that Akhtar was sad after his son Gulhasan was “murdered”. “Gulhasan’s body, however, was hung to make it appear a suicide,” he said.
