Unnao rape case: Extremely saddening, case will be taken to fast-track court, says Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday expressed grief over the death of the Unnao rape victim and assured that the case will be taken to a fast track court.
The CM in a press note said that "All the accused have been arrested and the case will be taken to a fast-track court."
Similarly, UP deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya has also expressed grief over the death.
"This is an extremely unfortunate incident, I can't even imagine what the family of the victim is going through. I assure them that we will not spare the culprits, will get them punished at the earliest," Maurya said.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is sitting on a 'dharna' outside Vidhan Sabha in protest against the Unnao rape case.
On the other hand, the family of the victim has demanded the death penalty for the accused persons.
"I have nothing really to say. My sister is no more with us, my only demand is that the five accused deserve death and nothing less," said the brother of Unnao rape victim.
After battling for life at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, the Unnao Rape victim who was set ablaze while on her way to a court hearing on Thursday morning died at 11:40 pm on Friday.
Notably, the victim was on Thursday allegedly set on fire by a group of five men, including one who was accused of the crime. Five men have been arrested in this connection.
The woman was on her way to the railway station to catch an early morning train to Rae Bareli when she was stopped by the accused. Then the accused persons hit her head and attacked with a sharp weapon on her neck. As the woman slumped, they poured kerosene on the body and then set her on fire. The accused fled the scene soon after.
Some passersby had come to her rescue and informed the local police. Then police reached the spot and sent the victim to a hospital for treatment.
Later on Thursday, the 23-year-old was airlifted from Lucknow's SMC government hospital to Safdarjung Hospital.
