Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey declines to appear before Parliamentary panel of India

Twitter has declined to send CEO Jack Dorsey to appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology on February 25.

Rather, Twitter has decided to send Colin Crowell, Global Vice President of Public Policy for Twitter to face the panel.

In a statement, Twitter has clarified that for Crowell, it’s the 2019 Lok Sabha election which deems to be the priority.

A spokesperson of the Twitter said, “We thank the Parliamentary Committee for its invitation to hear Twitter's views on 'safeguarding citizen rights on social/online news media platforms.”

Spokesperson further added, “These are issues for all internet services globally. Colin Crowell, Global Vice President of Public Policy for Twitter, will meet with the Committee on Monday.”

The Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology is tasked with examining aspects related to data security and privacy, and its also reported in media that the government has also asked Facebook and WhatsApp to be present before it on March 6.

Crowell, while showing commitment to overcome all political pressure, said, “We are committed to surfacing all sides of the conversation as we enter the election season in this extraordinarily diverse cultural, political and social climate.”

It is being allegedly said that Twitter has been biased with the right-wing groups.
