Tripura Violence: Another Lenin statue pulled down; PM condemns incidents, Rajnath Singh ensures order in the state
After the Northeast assembly 2018 results, Tripura faces a post-poll violence for a fourth straight day. On Monday, even a statue of communist icon and leader, Vladimir Lenin was bulldozed by BJP supporters in a celebration of victory.
In Tripura Assembly polls 2018, Left was defeated by the BJP and its ally People's Front of Tripura.
Later, BJP activists razed another statue of Vladimir Lenin on Monday night at Sabroom in southern Tripura. Tripura CPI(M) State Secretary Bijan Dhar said: "A statue of Vladimir Lenin was knocked down by BJP activists on Monday night at Sabroom in southern Tripura." "The statue was set up a few years ago," He added. Sabroom is 135 km south of the state capital.
Speaking to the media earlier on Tuesday, CPI(M) leader Haripada Das said: "The BJP supporters, chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', knocked down the statue of Lenin near a government college in Belonia." Das added that the statue was set up a year ago in Belonia, South Tripura's district headquarters, around 90 km from Agartala.
On 9 March, Tripura BJP chief, Biplab Kumar Dev is to sworn in as the chief minister of the state, for which P Modi is expected to visit Agartala to attend swearing ceremony. The prime minister today, strongly disapproved the vandalism of Lenin statue.
According to reports, the Prime Minister spoke with Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh in this regard and strongly disapproved of such incidents.
Amidst the reports of attacks on CPM offices and on workers, the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh called Tripura governor and DGP and asked them to ensure peace in the state until a new government is formed.
The Home Ministry Affairs also stated that persons responsible for such acts must be sternly dealt with and booked under relevant provisions of law.
