Tollywood critic Kathi Mahesh externed from Hyderabad for 6 months

The Telangana Police has banned Telugu film critic Kathi Mahesh from entering Hyderabad for six months.

The decision was taken in the wake of the derogatory remarks made by the critic regarding Hindu Gods Rama and Sita.

"Kathi Mahesh has made adverse comments affecting the religious sentiments of a community. Extended orders have been issued against him prohibiting his entry into Hyderabad for next six months under the Telangana Prevention of Anti-Social and Hazardous Activities Act, 1930. He has been taken out of the city to be dropped at his native place, Chittoor," Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy told reporters here on Monday.

Furthermore, a notice has been served on the management of the TV channel responsible for telecasting malicious content and hurting religious sentiments. The channel will also be required to explain why the management should not be prosecuted for the offence under section 16 and 17 of the cable television networks (Regulation) Act No. 7 of 1995 for violation of the programme code.

Last week, Mahesh was served a notice over derogatory comments made by him against Hindu Gods Rama and Sita.

Murli, the Circle Inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station, had said that they received a complaint from a Bajrang Dal activist stating that Mahesh had made derogatory statements against Lord Sri Rama and Sita in a private Telugu channel debate.

As per the complainant, the remarks made were hurtful to the sentiments of the Hindu community.

A case was registered under section 295-A and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code.
