Tamil Nadu observes 1000th birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujacharya
Various functions are being organized in Srirangam and Kanchipuram to culminate the 1000th birth anniversary of Vaishnavite saint Sri Ramanuja, the Acharya who gave the Navagranthas to the world.
Holy cavalcade is being held today in Srirangam Ranganathar Swamy temple at Sri Ramanujar sannidhi. The 1000 year celebration of Sri Ramanujacharyara birth anniversary started in May last year.
Central Postal region Director Natarajan will release special postal cover on Sri Ramanujacharya, today in a function that will be held to be held at Thousand pillar mandapam in Srirangam temple.
The divine body of Sri Ramanujacharya is said to be preserved in sannidhi inside Srirangam Ranganathar Swamy temple. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised Saint Ramanujacharya in his 30th Mann Ki Baat address.
He appreciated his relentlessly struggled against rampant social evils such as the class and caste divide. He said that we should gain inspiration from Ramanujacharya in our endeavor to foster social unity.
Sri Ramanujar was born near Sriperumbudur and then traversed length and breadth of the nation spreading Vaihnavite philosophy.
