Suspected LeT terrorist arrested from Lucknow
In a major breakthrough, a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist has been arrested from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), with the assistance of Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), arrested the terrorist from Charbagh Bus Stand on Tuesday.
Some incriminating documents, mobile phone and bank account details were also seized from his possession, according to an official statement.
The accused, identified as Shaikh Abdul Nayeem, is a resident of Aurangabad in Maharashtra.
The security force claimed that that accused did reconnaissance of several tourist destinations in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh for the purpose of carrying out terror attacks.
A case has been registered against him, and he has been sent to 10-day NIA custody after Nayeem was produced before a Delhi court.
He was earlier arrested by the West Bengal police in 2007 when he was infiltrating into India from Bangladesh along with two Pakistanis and one Kashmiri.
However, he escaped from the judicial custody in Chhattisgarh in 2014.
The accused has been associated with a Pakistan based LeT Commander and received funds from LeT operatives based in UAE for setting up bases in different parts of India.
