Surat Fire Tragedy: 'I had no option but to jump off the burning building’ says student, recalling the horror

In a horrifying incident, at least Twenty students, including 16 girls, died in a deadliest fire that broke out in coaching center in India’s dioman city Surat on Friday. A dozen of students jump-off from the third and fourth floors of the building to ave their life. Three students who jumped off the building died. One of the students, who survived the incident told that he had no choice other than to jump from the third floor.
The student identified as Rashit Wakaria, said that people were scared by the fire coming out of the coaching center’s AC. He said, "The teacher who taught the coaching said that someone who would have lit a fire outside and the smoke definitely coming out from it. But when the smoke continued to grow, we went to the last room for safety. When there was trouble in breathing, then we opened the windows. '
Wakaria said that the fire fighters asked us to jump. They said, "Fire fighters asked us to jump down but they did not had any safety net to catch us. I thought that if I stay here then I will die from smoke. So I took a chance and left my friends and jumped from the third floor. After this I just remember that I was severly injured. When I gain my conciousness, I found myself in the hospital and realized that I was saved. ' Wakaria has been hurt in both hands and head and got eight stitches.

However, locals said that the fire safety system was not available in the building and there was no way for the people to save their lives. Following which they were left with only one option that to jump from the building to save their lives.

After the gruesome incident, the government has ordered all the coaching centers across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara to be shut till the fire safety audit is completed.

The Ahmedabad Police have ordered all tuition classes, dance classes and summer camps in the district to stop until all inspection have been done. The Surat Crime Branch have filed against three person, the police have arrested the owner of coaching center, Borgu Bhutani.
