Shocking: Dog enters Rajasthan hospital, kills month-old infant

In a shocking incident, a one-month-old child was mauled to death by a street dog after being taken away from a government hospital, police said on February 28.

The child was sleeping next to his mother when the stray dog entered the room and took him away. The incident took place at a government hospital in Rajasthan’s Sirohi District late yesterday night.

The body of the one-month-old child was found outside the hospital ward.

According to police, two dogs were seen in a CCTV footage entering the hospital’s TB ward and one of them returned with the infant.

Kotwali SHO Sitaram stated that the father of the deceased child, Mahendra Meena, was undergoing silicosis treatment in the hospital. The child's mother, who was attending to the patient along with her three children, fell asleep while the incident occurred. Police reported that none of the hospital staff was present in the ward at the time of the incident.

The deceased child's father accused the hospital authorities and police of making his wife sign blank papers and perform the last rites of his child without informing him.

Post-mortem of the child has been conducted, and police are about to register a case in the matter.

Further investigation is underway.
