In life-threatening medical negligence, surgeons at a prestigious hospital in Hyderabad accidentally left a pair of forceps inside a lady patients stomach during surgery. The forceps were left in the stomach for around 3 months until it was found in an X-Ray.
The 33-year-old woman, who had undergone surgery at the city's Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences three months ago. Soon after she was discharged, the woman reportedly complained of persistent abdominal pain.
Following the severe pain, the woman turned to the hospital on Friday for the check-up after which an X-Ray was done that revealed 2 forceps in her stomach. As soon as the doctor got to know about the medical blunder, the woman was immediately admitted and has been taken in for surgery to remove the surgical tool this morning.
"The patient is our first priority. At the earliest we are removing the instrument to nurture the patient back to health," NIMS director K. Manohar told to NDTV.
The operation was conducted by a surgeon in the department of surgical gastroenterology. The hospital has constituted a committee of inquiry, he said.
According to reports, an investigating officer has been sent by the police and a case of medical negligence may be filed. A Consumer Court is likely to look into the case as well.
