In a shocking incident, now a couple was abused, thrashed and brutally beaten up on the Kolkata Metro train for standing 'too close' publicly. The young couple was pushed out and then thrashed by a mob of men for allegedly hugging each other in the metro train.
A couple was harassed and beaten up in Kolkata for hugging each other inside a metro compartment, reported Anandabazar Patrika quoting an eyewitness.
"While returning home from my office, I boarded a Dumdum bound metro from Chandni Chowk metro station at around 9:45 pm. like other days. I noticed that few passengers were teasing and threatening a couple for allegedly hugging each other in the train," describing the incident, Ujjwal Chakraborty said.
"After the train reached Dumdum metro station, the mob suddenly attacked and beaten up the couple badly inside the metro station. I tried to save them from the attacking crowd, but could not," Chakraborty added.
In the photos taken from the cell phone by one of the co-traveller, a woman can be seen covering the man with her body as people around them are trying to physically assault them. As per reports, the incident happened around 10 PM on Monday when people on the train objected the couple for standing too close to each other.
As soon as the metro train reached the Dum Dum station, the couple was pushed out of the train by a group of middle-aged and elderly passengers. According to a news report, the couple was beaten until some other passengers came to their rescue.
The boy was kicked, punched and pushed and when the girl tried to save him, she received a few blows as well, the report stated.
"No such complaint has been registered yet. We have gone through a news report in a Bengali daily that a couple was beaten up by co-passengers at Dumdum metro station for hugging each other in the train," a senior official of Kolkata metro told IBNS.
"We are looking into the matter," he added.
