Shocking: 100-year-old dies after rape in UP's Meerut, villagers demand death sentence for the culprit
At a time when women safety is one of the most discussed debates, it seems that there has been no improvement regarding the same.
In yet another shocking incident, a 100-year-old woman died after getting raped by a 24-year-old man in Meerut's Jaani village on 30 October. According to media reports, the man was in a drunk state. The man identified as Ankit Punia, reportedly, barged into the woman's house around midnight on Sunday. The incident took place when the woman was asleep.
"The accused was in an inebriated state when he attacked the helpless woman," informed police.
Police added: "He was trying to escape when her cries were heard by her brother and neighbours who overpowered him and handed him over to police."
An FIR has been registered in this regard.
Police have imposed various charges, including rape, murder and sections of the SC/ST Act.
Villagers, who are still in shock, have demanded that the culprit is awarded death sentence.
The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and the doctors declared her dead after a medical examination.
