Sharjeel Imam admits the viral video of his speech at AMU was ‘real’
JNU scholar Sharjeel Imam, who has been arrested for sedition under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), admitted to the Delhi Police that the viral video of his speech at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is real, India Today reports said.
Earlier, Imam made some controversial speeches during the ongoing protests on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He confessed to Delhi Police that he made the controversial remark about the cutting the Silliguri Corridor also called Chicken’s Neck, in the heat of the moment.
He also claimed that the viral video doing the round on social media doesn’t contain his full speech which he delivered in the varsity.
Notably, the JNU scholar was booked for sedition and other charges in several states. Delhi Police also said that the speech of Sharjeel in Jamia Millia Islamia, as well as the "even more inflammatory" one that went viral.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch and special cell officers also asserted that the Sharjeel didn’t give the speech in the heat of the moment rather it was a well-planned strategy.
Sharjeel made some inflammatory comments during the anti-CAA protest at the varsity in Aligarh. Later, the police arrested him in Jehanabad in Bihar.
Sharjeel was also visited Phulwarisharrif near Patna to participate in another protest on CAA/NRC. Later, he went underground when he came to know about the sedition charges filed against him in connection with his AMU speech.
He had gone to his parental village, Kako in Jehanabad where he was arrested by a joint team from Bihar and Delhi police.
