Sharad Yadav defends his body shame remark on Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje; here's what he has to say
Expelled Janta Dal (United) (JDU) leader Sharad Yadav takes U-turn and defends his derogatory body-shaming remark on Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje during an election campaign in Alwar. He said he will write a letter to her if his words have hurt her sentiments.
“I saw her statement. I have very old family relations with her. If my words hurt her, I express my regret. I will also write a letter to her,” Sharad Yadav Loktantrik Janta Dal (LJP) chief said.
In a video clip shared by news agency ANI, Yadav can be heard saying during a rally on Wednesday, "Vasundhra ko aaram do, bahut thak gayi hain, bahut moti ho gayi hain, pehle patli thi. Humare Madhya Pradesh ki beti hai (Please give Vasundhara some rest, she is tired, she has grown fat, she was thinner earlier. She is Madhya Pradesh's daughter)."
In his comment, Yadav has called her ‘fat’ and took a jibe during his campaign in the state, on which Rajasthan CM and BJP candidate Vasundhara Raje said that she felt insulted. “I actually feel insulted and I think even women are insulted,” Raje told media after casting her vote in Jhalrapatan constituency of Jhalawar for the Rajasthan Assembly election, ANI reported.
Taking note on his jibe, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a written complaint to Election Commission (EC) against Loktantrik Janta Dal (LJP) chief Sharad Yadav over his 'fat' jibe for BJP candidate Vasundhara Raje.
Yadav is known for making misogynistic and sexist remarks. In 2017, after quitting JD(U) over differences with party leader Nitish Kumar, he made a controversial remark, saying, “the integrity of a vote is bigger than integrity of daughter”. “if a daughter loses honour, the village is dishonoured but if a vote is sold, the whole country loses its honour”.
Sharad Yadav is an ex-Union minister, in 2015, also landed in a soup of controversies for making outrageous remarks on women. In Rajya Sabha, he said “The body of women from the south is as good as beautiful they are. They (women) in our region are not that good as those (in the south) know dancing.”
