SC demands clear picture from govt on how long will restrictions remain in J&K

The Supreme Court of India asked the Centre that how long they palnned to continue with restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370.

"How many days you want restrictions. It is already two months now. You have to come clear on this and you have to find out other methods," a bench headed by Justice N.V. Ramana said.

"You may impose restrictions, but you (government) have to review your decisions."

The top court which was hearing various petition pursuing loosening up and other matters in Jammu and Kashmir listed the matter for 5th November.

Making an appearance for Jammu and Kashmir administration, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said to the court that around 99 per cent restrictions have been pulled off and the easing of restrictions is analysed on a day to day basis.

Tushar Mehta also said to the court that the installation of the internet is directly linked to the surge in terrorist cases in the valley. He further stated that these matters have trans-border consequences.

One of the petition put forward by Kashmir Times Executive Editor Anuradha Bhasin has appealed for relaxation of movement in the valley, while other one was placed by a child activist asserting unlawful imprisonment in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Supreme Court also gave order to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to promptly decide on the petition placed by Asifa Mubeen challenging the detention of her husband, who is an NRI.

The top court will also listen to other petitions, including Sitaram Yechury challenging the detention of his party worker Mohammed Yousaf Tarigami and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s plea on the next date fixed for proceedings.
