Soon after seventh and final polling in 59 constituencies for the Lok Sabha elections concluded, several exit polls tossed on The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government’s comeback at Centre, with BJP alone touching the majority mark. According to exit poll survey carried out by several media houses, on an average NDA is all set to bag 305-320 seats while Congress to struggles on 70-80 seats.
Meanwhile, just like sports, betting market also on the peak in politics. The odds are not good for Congress in most betting centres across the nation. According to India Today, the bookish in Mumbai bets with 238-241 seats to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While for Congress, India’s financial capital predicts 78-81 seats in the national poll.
In Rajasthan and Gujarat, the betting markets stakes are hight for BJP giving 242-245 and 242-244 seats to the saffron party, respectively. For Congress the bookish 75-80 seats in Rajasthan while Gujarat's prediction is slightly above at 80-82 seats.
Madhya Pradesh is also on the front foot in the gambling game, the city of lake forecast 246-248 seats for the BJP and 80-82 seats for Congress.
According to reports, the betting market is believed to run into hundreds of crores, however, no authoritative estimates are available. The reports also suggest that the size of the election betting market is almost double than in 2014.
Meanwhile, betting or gambling is illegal in several parts of India, but there is no guideline for online betting. The Public Gambling Act, 1867 is a central law that prohibits all kinds of gambling in India.
