Sabarimala Temple row: BJP leader K Surendran says, 'You can't stop us,' after police detains him under 'preventive measure'
Amid the Sabarimala temple row, a BJP leader in Kerala has threatened the administration that they cannot stop him from visiting the temple.
K Surendran, BJP’s general secretary of Kerala, was detained by the police here on Saturday for creating a ruckus outside the temple premises and threatening the department. His detention was described by the police as “preventive measure.”
Surendran was detained with his supporters and the party workers were blocked at Nilakkal base camp and was asked to return.
Surendran was carrying with him a bundle of offerings for Lord Ayyappa when he was blocked by the police and asked to return, as the police insisted that a law and order situation could be created.
Surendran reportedly told police that, “You can stop us only if you shoot at us. Even lathicharge can't stop us.”
And the BJP’s general secretary had said that he was devotee of Lord Ayyappa and he should be allowed to enter the temple and pray in the premises.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered that the women of all age group were allowed to enter the temple premises, in a landmark judgement of the Constitution bench which gave the verdict with the majority of 4-1.
Thereafter, the protest against the decision taken by the Supreme Court grew and several women journalists were attacked near the temple premises. In the police crackdown, more than 3,000 protesters were detained and a heavy security was deployed.
Activist Trupti Desai landed day before yesterday at Cochin Airport but couldn’t get out of it as the protesters were sitting right outside, demanding her to go back.
