RPG smuggled from Pakistan, attackers identified: Punjab Police on Tarn Taran Attack

The Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), which was shot at a police station in the Tarn Taran area on Friday night, was allegedly smuggled from Pakistan, according to a statement made by the Punjab Police on Monday. The perpetrators of the crime have also been identified, the police said.

“Under the Tarn Taran attack investigation, we have found that the RPG was smuggled from Pakistan, the rest of the probe is underway… Those who executed the RPG attack at Sarhali Police Station have been identified. The rest of the probe is underway," Inspector general of police (IGP) Sukhchain Singh Gill said.

Singh added that the details will be public once the investigation is over. “All minute details will be revealed once the investigation is over. I am saying this with all determination, we have unearthed the whole case, which we will present soon,” Gill added.

A low-intensity blast was reported at the Tarn Taran Police Sanjha Kendra in Punjab On December 9. Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Parkash Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO), has been removed from the Sarhali Kalan police station. SHO Parkash Singh was replaced by Sukhbir Singh.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials arrived at the Sarhali Kalan police station on Saturday evening as the police suspected ‘terror link’ in the incident.

The projectile, fired by some unidentified people, hit the Saanjh Kendra adjoining the Sarhali police station on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway on Friday night.

The projectile hit the Saanjh Kendra adjoining the Sarhali police station on Friday night. No casualty was reported however window panes and a portion of a wall of the building were damaged.

Police have detained seven suspects and have been questioning them in connection with the attack.
