Republic Day 2020: From J-K’s ‘back to village’ to Rafale; 22 tableaux on 71st parade
On 71st Republic Day parade witnessed the participation of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory for the first time on Sunday. Goa’s “save the frog” campaign, J-K “back to village,” Rafale, UNESCO world heritage sites in Jaipur and Gujarat, architectural wonders, 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev were showcased among the 22 tableaux.
Talking about the Jammu-Kashmir’s model an artisan weaving a Kashmiri shawl was displayed at the forefront of the float while the middle part showcased an artisan designing the traditional pottery.
The Indian Air Force tableau showcased models of the Tejas aircraft, Rafale aircraft, the Light Combat Helicopter, Akash Missiles System and Astra Missiles.
Goa tableau showcased its seashore along with its biodiversity and livelihoods. Apart from this they also highlighted the state’s campaign to ‘Save the Frog,’ an anti-frog poaching campaign.

Punjab’s tableau depicted the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019.
The Walled City of Jaipur which was accorded the UNESCO World Heritage tag in 2019 was the most important theme of the Rajasthan tableau showcasing the architectural grandeur. Also, reflecting the state’s vibrant culture and its folk songs and dances.
Gujarat’s architectural wonder Rani Ki Vav, known as ‘Queen’s Stepwell’ was the centrepiece of the state’s tableau with a pinch of folk culture.
Other states which took part in the grand parade were Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
