Remarks against Prophet Mohammad: BJP suspends Telangana MLA T Raja Singh
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 23 suspended its Telangana MLA T Raja Singh for his controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
Earlier today, Singh was arrested by the police following protests in Hyderabad last night demanding stringent action against him. An FIR was lodged against the MLA at the Dabeerpura Police Station under sections 153a, 505 and 295, of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
T Raja Singh is known for his Hindutva views and controversial remarks involving a particular community. The BJP said that the derogatory remarks made by the MLA were against the party’s line.
“You have expressed views contrary to the Party’s position on various matters, which is in clear violation of Rule XXV. 10 (a) of the constitution of the BJP,” read the suspension letter issued to Singh. Om Pathak, who is secretary of the BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee, issued the latter.
In the letter, Pathak also asked the MLA to ‘show cause’ within 10 days as to why he should not be expelled from BJP.
Protests erupted in Hyderabad city on August 22 after T Raja Singh released a video clip in which Singh allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Prophet. Protesters demanded immediate and stringent against the BJP MLA.
T Raja Singh is the latest BJP leader to have landed in the controversy over his alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. Before Singh, BJP expelled Naveen Jindal and suspended Nupur Sharma for their remarks.
