Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday, August 20, paid tributes to their father, former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi on his 78th birth anniversary at Vir Bhumi.
"Papa, you are with me every moment, in my heart. I will always try that I can fulfill the dream you dreamed for the country," tweeted Rahul Gandhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tributes to Gandhi.
"On his birth anniversary, tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi," tweeted PM Modi today.
Remembering the former Prime Minister’s legacy, the official Twitter account of the Congress, in a message wrote, "We fondly remember former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, on his birth anniversary. Hailed as the "architect of 21st century India", it was through his farsighted vision that ushered in the IT and telecom revolution in India. Today, we celebrate his legacy."
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal also remembered the former Prime Minister.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala paid rich tribute to Gandhi.
Several other ministers and politicos tweeted on this occasion. They remembered Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to the development of the nation.
In 1984, Rajiv Gandhi took over the charge of the Congress party after the assassination of his mother and then PM Indira Gandhi. At the age of 40, he took the oath and became the youngest Prime Minister of India. Gandhi served as the sixth PM of the country between 1984-89 before he was assassinated by the LTTE terrorists in the year1991.
