Rajasthan Election 2018: Amidst voting, history favors the Congress as BJP fighting for prestige in Hindi heartland

In the Hindi heartland, the national parties are all set to showcase their power as the history is favoring the Congress and BJP is fighting for the prestige in this election.

Rajasthan has 200 seats up for contest, out of which 1 is nominated and the 199 seats are up for grab. BJP has been in power since 2013 and Vasundhara Raje is facing the heat of anti-incumbency which is at its peak in the state.

Sandeep Bakshi, a political analyst told India Today that “people in Rajasthan express their frustration at an inaccessible government by changing it.”

In Rajasthan, there are 199 seats and 2274 candidates fighting their luck with more than 20 lakh first time voters. Battling the anti-incumbency will not be easy for the BJP as it is a fight of prestige and for the Congress, its about being relevant and an existential crisis remains for the Congress which needs to win this election any how.

Congress has fielded 15 Muslim candidates whereas BJP has only 1 candidate, minister Yunus Khan, who is contesting from Tonk constituency against Congress’ campaigner and probable CM candidate Sachin Pilot.

But, BJP is ahead in fielding Rajput candidates with 27 whereas the Congress party who has gone with a dominant Muslim candidates, has been able to field 13 Rajput candidates in the state. Getting Rajputs vote en bloc for Congress would get difficult after UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s rallies, who is also a Rajput and has been able to garner votes and crowds with his statements on Lord Hanuman.

BJP is focusing on the attacks on Congress party and not the works or policies of Vasundhara Raje government which had been followed in last 5 years, as in the last rally of PM Narendra Modi in Dausa, he escaped Vasundhara’s 5 years rule and upped his attack on Congress and Gandhi family.
