Rajasthan celebrates demonetisation anniversary with Vande Mataram recital

Observing the first anniversary of demonetisation, around 50,000 people gathered in the state capital on 8 November and sang 'Vande Mataram' at an event organised by the Hindu Adhyatmik and Seva Foundation along with Rajasthan Youth Board.

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu was also present at the event.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led state government and the party's state unit observed the first anniversary of demonetisation today as "anti-black money" day.

The artists gave a presentation of different symphonies of 'Vande Mataram' and the organisers have roped in National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), scouts and guides and RSS volunteers to manage the crowd.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the benefits of demonetisation and shared a video from his twitter handle.

The seven minutes long video underlines the need and importance of ban of high value currency.

The video depicts demonetisation as one of the bravest steps taken by Prime Minister Modi after coming to power in 2014.

The video says that the country was suffering from the menace of corruption and black money before 2014 and the decision of demonetisation was a step to 'clean the Indian economy.

On this day last year, the old Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes - 86 percent of currency in circulation - were scrapped after the Prime Minister made an unexpected announcement during a surprise television address.

He also gave the nation's 1.3 billion people a 50-day window to either deposit them into bank accounts or exchange them for minted notes.
