Rahul Gandhi's 'Minimum Income Support' not feasible to implement say NITI Ayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Rahul Gandhi has wooed the voters with his Minimum Income Guarantee programme for the below poverty line but NITI Ayog’s vice chairman has called it ‘unfeasible and difficult to implement.’

Rajiv Kumar, vice chairman of NITI Ayog termed this as a political sop much similar to the one raised by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1970’s and a famous slogan was coined “Garibi Hatao.”

Kumar, who was talking to IANS, said, “I don't think it is practical. I think it is more rhetorical. It is similar in nature to 'garibi hatao'. And I don't think its implementation will be feasible. We neither have that kind of fiscal space, nor that kind of complete data that you need were you to be able to implement it.”
