Rahul Gandhi's interaction with Chennai students not a violation of poll code: EC
In a big relief to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission has cleared off his name after a clean chit in his speech during an event in a college in Chennai.
The poll watchdog took the decision after the Tamil Nadu government decided to take action against the Gandhi scion in the matter as the AIADMK felt that it’s a clear case of violation of the model code of conduct.
Satyabrata Sahoo, the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, said that the local electoral officials have reported about the case and said that there was no violation of poll code in terms of permission being acquired by the college Stella Maris College for Women to hold the interaction session with Rahul Gandhi on March 13.
Earlier, the Director of Collegiate Education, R Sarumathi, had ordered an inquiry in the matter and the state government also asked the college how did it approve the interaction of Rahul Gandhi with students when the model code of conduct was in play.
Meanwhile, during the interaction, ne student asked Rahul Gandhi about his brother-in-law Robert Vadra being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, Gandhi replied saying, “investigate Robert Vadra but also investigate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
When asked about the education system and how to improve it, the Congress president said, “We are convinced India is spending less on education, our target is 6 per cent. It is not only about spending money on education, but also independence on education. All our educational institutions should be able to challenge us. I want you all to make me uncomfortable.”
