Rahul Gandhi gets EC notice for poll code violation with ‘anti-tribal law’ remark
Congress President Rahul Gandhi gets Election Commission notice on Wednesday for violating the model code of conduct during his speech in a speech in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol. The poll body has sought his response in the matter within 48 hours (till May 3).
Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol on April 23 claimed that "Narendra Modi-led NDA government has made a new law in which there is a line that says tribals can be shot at."
"Narendra Modi has made a new law that allows police to shoot at tribals. The law says that tribals can be attacked. They take away your lands, take away your forests, they take away your water, and then they say tribals can be shot at," the EC notice quoted Gandhi as saying at a rally in Shahdol.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had complained to the Election Commission over Rahul Gandhi's anti-tribal law speech. After a week of the BJP's complaint to EC, the poll body issued the notice to Gandhi and given 48 hours to respond to the notice, failing which "it will take a decision without further reference to him".
The notice has been served to Congress President Rahul Gandhi through a special messenger. The Congress president is yet to comment on the matter.
