Rafale deal row: SC to look into request of early hearing for review petition in Rafale case

Supreme Court has decided to look into a petition in Rafale deal case filed by advocate Prashant Bhushan for review of its judgement in which the apex court gave a clean chit to the Government of India.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has said in the matter, “Will do something for the listing of the case as a bench is to be constituted for it, Let me see.”

4 different petitions, including one by the government, have been filed in the Supreme Court for a correction in the verdict pronounced by the court. The government wants a clarification in the part where the bench had mentioned that CAG report was already tabled in the Parliament rather it was placed after the clean chit was given, in the last session that ended on February 13.

The CAG report, detailing on Capital Acquisitions in Indian Air Force, mentioned that the Rafale deal negotiated by the NDA government was 2.86% lower than the deal which was planned in the UPA era.

Earlier, while giving a clean chit to the government, the CJI Ranjan Gogoi led three-judge bench has held, “Having heard the matter in detail, we find no reason for any intervention by this court on the sensitive issue...Perception of individuals cannot be the basis of a fishing and roving enquiry by this court, especially in such matters.”
