Punjab: Shocking! AAP leader shot thrice in Amritsar by an unidentified man, days after grenade attack in the area; hospitalised
A senior Aam Aadmi Party leader of the Amritsar unit was allegedly shot thrice by an unidentified man in Amritsar on Tuesday evening. The leader Suresh Sharma, who was district AAP president in Amritsar till August, was rushed to a private hospital where he was being treated. The attacker fled the spot.
The attack reportedly took place in densely-populated Chheharta area, days after a grenade attack at the Narinkari Bhawan on Sunday.
“According to initial information, one man came and fired at Sharma. Two bullets hit him. The attacker came on foot and had his face covered. It is possible that his aide may have been waiting for him at some distance. We are investigating,” Chheharta SHO Harish Behal said.
SHO Behal said so far the family hasn’t named any suspect. “Victim is hospitalised and his statement will be recorded soon,” said Behal.
Suresh Sharma is part of the Sukhpal Singh Khaira group of AAP rebels. Khaira had also appointed him a member of Political Affair Committee.
“Attack on Sharma has exposed the law and order situation in the state. We have demanded immediate arrest of the attackers. If a political leader can be targeted at a market then what security does a common man have,” said Khaira.
