'Proud of Babri Masjid demolition', says Sadhvi Pragya, EC serves second notice

Ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP’s new entrant Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has courted controversy with her remarks in the last 48 hours and the new one is about Babri Masjid demolition, to which she feels it’s a ‘proud moment.’

Irking a row with her remark, the BJP leader while giving an interview to the news channel AajTak, said that she does not “regret” the demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 and rather is “proud” over that incident. She said that she is certain over building a Ram Temple at the site is what she demands off.

Claiming that Hindus have awakened the self-respect of the country, Sadhvi Pragya said, “Why would we regret the demolition of the Babri Masjid? We are, in fact, proud of it. There were some waste products of the Ram temple and we removed it. This has awakened the self-respect of our country and we will construct a grand Ram temple.”

The Bhopal’s District Election Officer has issued a notice to the BJP candidate and have sought an explanation in a day over her remarks, wherein she has said, “I had demolished the structure (in Ayodhya). I will go there & help in the construction of Ram temple.”

The BJP’s candidate from the Bhopal constituency had earlier insulted 26/11 Mumbai attacks martyr and ATS chief late Hemant Karkare, who in his investigation, has claimed that Sadhvi Pragya was involved in the Malegaon blast. Sadhvi had said, “Hemant Karkare was anti-national. He was dharam virudh (anti-religion). You won't believe this, but I said that he will be destroyed. Soon after, terrorists killed him.”
