Priyanka Gandhi opens up on joining active politics late; here’s what she has to say
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who recently stepped in active politics ahead of Lok Sabha polls and was appointed as AICC or Congress General Secretary of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, opens up on her late entry into the Indian politics and said ‘I made a mistake.’
In an interview with Livemint, Priyanka Gandhi opened up on what made her enter active politics now and said, “Now, it would be an act of cowardice to sit at home when democracy, the Constitution and all the institutions are under attack. I could not live with that.”
Further, when Priyanka was asked about many in the party believe she joined politics very late, she said “Yes, I made a mistake. I agree that I had declined the offer when Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked me to take up the role of a party general secretary, or as UP Congress president. But people learn from experience. So, I learnt from that. And when the party chief asked me again, I took the decision. It was a mistake back then, but now I am ready to take the responsibility.”
Priyanka Gandhi has been campaigning for the Congress party in UP actively and working on the strategies to increase its footprint. She is often compared with late former Prime Minister and her grandmother Indira Gandhi --- as an inspiration by party or jab by the rivals. Priyanka is playing a key role in Amethi and Rae Bareli, home turf for Gandhis, over long years.
