Pramod Sawant takes charge as Goa CM, to face floor test tomorrow
After the political deadlock ended in Goa on Tuesday night with Pramod Sawant swearing in as the new Chief Minister, the BJP will face the floor test in the Goa Assembly tomorrow.
New CM Pramod Sawant, who took the oath at 2am on late Monday night, has said in a statement that “We are going for the floor test tomorrow. There will 2 deputy CMs in this government- Vijay Sardesai and Sudin Dhavalikar.”
Sawant further added that “And I request all the people to not congratulate me or welcome me with flowers during the 7-day mourning period.”
Post the tragic demise of former CM Manohar Parrikar, who was suffering from pancreatic cancer, a situation of political vacuum had been created. The alliance partners, including Goa Forward Party and MGP were adamant with their demands, but as per media reports, after the calls of Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari, the matter was resolved and everyone agreed with the formula of 1 CM and 2 deputy CM from the alliance partners.
The list of 11 ministers who also took oath alongside CM Pramod includes, Manohar Ajgaonkar (MGP), Rohan Khavtye (independent), Govind Gaude (independent), Vinod Palyekar (Goa forward), Jayesh Salgaonkar (Goa Forward) and four of the BJP, namely, Mauvin Godinho, Vishwajit Rane, Milind Naik aand Nilesh Cabral.
The final rites of four time CM Manohar Parrikar was concluded on Monday evening after PM Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman payed their tributes. A 21 gun salute was accorded to the stalwart politician of BJP.
