PM Narendra Modis I-Day speech: Violence in the name of faith is unacceptable

Taking a clear stance on communalism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 August asserted that in the country of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, communalism will be detrimental.

Addressing the nation on India's 71st Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi stated that violence in the name of faith will not be tolerated.

"This is the country of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi. The poison of casteism and communalism can never be beneficial for our nation. Violence in the name of faith will not be tolerated," he said.

Further, Prime Minister Modi said, while India relied on the British leaving India, it is now time to focus on uniting India.

"It is in our culture to integrate everyone in the progress of the country. The nation will progress only with peace and unity," he said.
