PM Narendra Modi shows respect for Azaan, pauses his north-east victory speech at BJP's HQ; video goes viral

BJP witnessed a historical win in North-East Assembly polls after smashing 25-years-long rule of the communist party in Tripura. Prime Minister Modi was giving his speech on party's victory in BJP's newly inaugurated Head-quarter in Delhi. After listening to the Azaan from the nearest mosque near the HQ the Prime Minister paused his speech for the Muslims prayer.

PM Modi stayed morn for near about two minutes as the Azaan sound rang out in the middle of his speech on party's victory on Tripura. PM Modi was asked to speak just after the BJP's national chief Amit Shah. Just a minute after PM Modi's speech the prayers began.

The Prime Minister resumed his speech with shouting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' when the prayers stopped. The BJP party worker gathered at the HQ was shouted and the voice echoed in the office.

This is not the first time PM Modi has stopped his speech for Azaan.Earlier in November last year when PM Modi was campaigning in Gujarat, he paused his speech for Azaan.

The year before, he had stopped while speaking at a rally in West Bengal. "I do not want to interrupt anyone's prayers. So I decided to take a brief rest," he said as he resumed his address.

Azaan is the Muslim call to worship and it is called out by clerics at mosques five times a day. Though the prayers are usually held in the morning, the Maghrib Azaan is performed in the evening.

Later after resuming his speech, PM Modi called for a moment's silence for BJP workers he said who had been killed in Tripura, Kerala and other states. "Many workers of the BJP have sacrificed their lives. For their political ideologies, many innocent volunteers have been killed. Fear and misconceptions - these weapons have been used by Left parties with Maoist views," said the Prime Minister.
