PM Modi urges party workers to check spread of fake news on social media

Ahead of the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers to put a check on the spread of fake news on social media platforms.

The Prime Minister further urged his party workers to use the social media platform and make people aware about governmental schemes.

"The BJP workers could use social media to spread the government's vision and schemes. The workers should also keep a check on the spreading of fake information on social media platforms," he said while addressing the party workers via NaMo app.

"People forward messages without checking the facts and without even realising that how it could harm the society and the people," he added.

The Prime Minister further appealed his party workers to reach out to every person eligible to vote and help them register themselves with the Election Commission.

Speaking about the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister said that the health care related services must be affordable, "Our focus is on preventive healthcare. This helps the poor and middle-class people the most. Along with this, healthcare must also be affordable."

The interaction between the Prime Minister and party workers comes a day after Prime Minister Modi met with 15 Chief Ministers and seven Deputies of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states and minced no words in reminding the state heads to meet targets of central welfare schemes, including Swachh Bharat scheme, in a time-bound manner.
