PM Modi holds 'healthy and extensive' interaction with Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee and held a 'healthy and extensive' interaction on various subjects.
sharing a picture from their meeting PM Modi Tweeted: "Excellent meeting with Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee. His passion towards human empowerment is clearly visible. We had a healthy and extensive interaction on various subjects. India is proud of his accomplishments. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours."
The 58-year-old Kolkata-born economist, his French-American wife Esther Duflo and the US' Michael Kremer on Monday were awarded the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences "for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty" on October 15.
He completed his MA in Economics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in 1983. Later, he went on to obtain a PhD in Economics at Harvard University in 1988.
Banarjee is currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He joined the select list of Indians or persons of Indian origin who have been awarded the Nobel Prize.
