PM Modi assassination plot: P Varavara Rao, Maoist ideologue and revolutionary writer arrested by Pune Police in Hyderabad
The man who was plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been arrested by Pune Police in Hyderabad on Tuesday. A Maoist ideologue and revolutionary writer P Varavara Rao allegedly were planning to kill the country’s Prime Minister.
Varavara’s arrest was preceded by searches conducted at his house in Gandhi Nagar for eight hours and those of seven others, including two journalists close to him and a professor at English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), in different parts of the city.
Police have arrested one of the journalists, Tekula Kranthi and also seized his laptop and several documents which allegedly showing his connection with the Maoist party.
However, after arresting the 78-year-old Rao, Police first took him to the Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad amidst tight security for a medical examination. After producing him before the local court in Hyderabad, he would be taken to Pune.
Due to a large number of followers of Rao have assembled with placards and condemning his arrest, tension prevailed at his house.
“It is highly atrocious on the part of the Maharashtra police to arrest Vara Vara Rao on false grounds. How can an ordinary person sitting in Hyderabad plot to kill the Prime Minister? They are fabricating the case against him,” Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) president P Sandhya alleged.
