Only a foolish govt will disclose defence secret: P Chidambaram on PM Modi's 'Mission Shakti'
As the nation withheld its breath during PM Narendra Modi’s address to the nation, which turned out to be the detailing of ‘Mission Shakti,’ Congress’ P Chidambaram has said that only a “foolish government” would make such a disclosure about defence secrets.
Slamming the BJP government’s decision to showcase the A-SAT project and detailing the ‘Mission Shakti’, Chidambaram tweeted, “The capability to shoot down a satellite has existed for many years. A wise government will keep the capability secret. Only a foolish government will disclose it and betray a defence secret.”
The former Union Minister questioned the tactic behind the governments move to publicise the achievement and make an announcement via public broadcaster.
“Besides, why was it done now in the middle of an election campaign? Only to boost the sagging fortunes of the BJP,” asked Chidambaram.
Further attacking the government over the rising unemployment, job losses post demonetisation and slowing down of economy, former Finance Minister cited data from the unreleased NSSO report.
Chidambaram tweeted saying, “Unemployment rate in India is at 7.1 per cent. It is the highest in 45 years. Why? Will Mr Modi answer? According to the NSSO, 4 crore 70 lakh jobs have been lost. Why? Will Mr Modi answer?”
In the election season, the Congress is looking for ways to revive itself as the party was decimated to 44 seats during the 2014 polls by the ruling BJP. P Chidambaram had not contested the last General elections. Although, his son, Karti Chidambaram, is contesting from Tamil Nadu.
