Omicron scare: Night curfew to return in Uttar Pradesh from December 25

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday imposed a night curfew starting from 25th December, from 11 pm—5 am. Several other curbs have also been put into effect, which includes that not more than 200 people can be allowed in weddings.

The fresh curbs have been put out in the midst of hightened monitoring because of growing number of Omicron cases in India.

According to the recent Health Ministry data, India saw 122 infections of the Omicron in the last 24 hours, the highest until now. Taking the total tally to 358 in the country. Out of which, 114 have have either recovered or migrated.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a meeting and ordered the officials to ensure people coming to the state are traced and tested for COVID-19, and more watchfulness is maintained on buses, airport and trains.

The chief minister asked for a close watch to be kept of those coming from other states after testing them, and if needed, they should be admitted to hospital or be quarantined.

The monitoring people did a good job in coronavirus management in the past, and directives have been put out to reactivate them in villages and urban wards, he said.

Yogi Adityanath said that in view of the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19, the state made structured preparations in the past which needed to be re-analyzed.

Facilities available at all government and private medical institutions of the state should be looked into closely, and the Covid help desk and the day care centre in industrial units should be activated, he said.
