Gen Bipin Rawat is seen dancing merrily with his friends, colleagues, and other senior officers. The Gorkha Paltan song was released in 2010 and it was sung by Prashant Tamang, the winner of Indian Idol 3. The film is also based on the Gorkha Regiment.
General Bipin Rawat was from the 5th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles. His father, a Lieutenant General, was also from the same unit.
When the Indian Government announced the new position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), retiring Army Chief General Bipin Rawat's name was decided for the first tri-services chief on December 30 with effect from December 31, 2019.
CDS serves as a single point of contact for the government on military matters, with the primary goal of integrating the three services — the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.
Gen Bipin Rawat was also the permanent Chairman of the Chief of Staff Committee (COSC).
On December 8, CDS Bipin Rawat died in a tragic chopper crash in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor along with his wife and 11 other people. The crash took place between Coimbatore and Sulur.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife, and other armed forces personnel who died in the crash have been brought to Delhi on December 9. The last rites of CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat will be held around 5 pm at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment.
