Odisha: 'Orange alert' issued as heat wave intensifies

Predicting further intensification of heat wave conditions in the state, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMT) on Tuesday issued orange alert, a warning for severe heat wave, across Odisha for next few days.

As the temperature rose beyond 45 degrees in five towns and 40 degrees in other 16 places yesterday, the Bhubaneswar met office issued the alert.

It is expected that the temperature may breach the 47 degree mark today, however, thundershowers may be experienced by some parts of the state.

Bolangir was recorded as the hottest place yesterday with a temperature of 46.2 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda with 46 degree Celsius temperature.

Misery is added in the lives of the people of the state due to water shortage and power cuts.

The state Special Relief Commissioner office informed that by far, it has received complaints of 38 deaths, allegedly caused by sunstroke.
