Nirbhaya case: DCW questions delay in punishment of perpetrators
The Delhi Commission for Women on 31 October issued a notice to the Tihar Jail Administration and Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District questioning the delay in the imposition of death penalty to the Nirbhaya case perpetrators.
"The callousness of this nature, on the part of the concerned authorities gives out a wrong message to the people of the country regarding justice and law", told DCW chairperson Swati Jaihind to ANI.
"The society and judiciary is trying to create more and more Nirbhayas", she added.
The notice has been issued after Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi complained to the DCW that even after five months of the Supreme Court's verdict, death sentence has not been carried out.
The notice questions the delay in the action as well as inquires whether the four accused have been served with the notice of their impending punishment.
The Commission has asked the Tihar officials and the DCP to respond to the notice before November 6.
The DCW chairperson further stated that in the wake of several rape cases in our country-from that of a 100 year old woman to a one-year old girl, this notice will highlight how rape cases are dealt in our country.
Jaihind also demanded that the rapists must be hanged immediately.
