NGT directs Volkswagen to pay Rs 100 crore by 5pm tomorrow or face arrest of company's MD & property seizure
The National Green Tribunal has ordered the German automobile major Volkswagen to deposit Rs 100 crore by 5pm tomorrow or face stringent action against the company.
The NGT, in its order dated November 16, 2018 had slammed the car maker for using ‘cheat devices’ fit in the cars to pass the pollution test world wide and as the news came in, the green court had penalized the company slamming a Rs 100 crore fine which is still to be paid by the company.
The bench headed by NGT chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel and included SP Wangdi had said, “Why have you not complied with our order when there is no stay. We will not give you any further time.”
News agency ANI tweeted in the matter, “National Green Tribunal (NGT) today asked Volkswagen to deposit Rs 100 crore by 5 PM tomorrow in emission case or else face punitive action including arrest of carmaker's country MD and seizure of all properties in India.”
