Naidu's Vice President candidature a proud moment for Telugus: Bandaru Dattatreya
Branding Venkaiah Naidu's candidature for the post of Vice President as a "historic decision", Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said it is a proud moment for the Telugu community.
Lauding the 'well-deserved' candidate, Dattatreya told ANI that Naidu will do the rightful duty as he is an experienced person.
"Naidu being announced as the Vice President candidate is a historic decision. He is the right candidate for the post. He will do the rightful duty and he is an experienced person. It is a proud moment for the Telugu community. I want all the parties to support him. I also wish him good luck," he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, Member of Parliament from Nizamabad K. Kavitha said Naidu as a Vice President will count and add more value to the country.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested our CM and TRS party leader to support Naidu for the vice presidential position. He is the senior party leader and Member of Parliament, our party has decided to support him. I am very sure that he will make a good vice presidential candidate. We are happy that a Telugu person is being nominated for the position. We are confident and very sure he will make a good vice president person. It will count and add more value to our country," she added.
Venkaiah Naidu will be the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President. The announcement was made by BJP President Amit Shah in New Delhi yesterday after the Party Parliamentary Board meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, J P Nadda, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Ananth Kumar were present in the meeting.
Naidu has been the National President of the Party from 2002 to 2004. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka in 1998 and was re-elected to the house in 2004, 2010and 2016.
He also chaired Committee on Petitions and Committee on Home Affairs of the Rajya Sabha. Naidu has also been Cabinet Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Government.
