Muzaffarpur shelter home case: Former Bihar Minister Manju Verma, who had surrendered earlier, sent to 1 day police remand
Former Bihar minister Maju Verma, accused of keeping illegal arms and booked under arms act, has been sent to police remand for 1 day by the Begusarai court, after she had surrendered two days back.
Bihar Additional Director General of Police S K Singhal has claimed that “Verma surrendered because of police pressure”.
The JDU had recently suspended Manju from the primary membership of the party and the RJD led Lalu Yadav, had alleged that Nitish Kumar was hiding the minister until now.
Former chief minister Rabri Devi had raised questions and doubt why the state police has not been able to catch minister Manju Verma, even though she had been hiding in Bihar, and why the police had failed to track the minister of the ruling party.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate had passed the order to send the minister on police remand, after a medical examination was done. Manju Verma had escaped the arrest earlier, and had moved the Supreme Court for the anticipatory bail.
Her husband, Chandra Shekhar Verma, had surrendered before the court on October 29.
The Supreme Court has been monitoring the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case and on November 12 had pulled up the state police was not been able to find and arrest Manju Verma, in the arms act. The apex court had also asked the Directorate General of Police to appear before the Supreme Court on November 27 and explain the matter and the failure of the state police in catching the criminals involved in the case.
