Mumbai plane crash: An eyewitness of the chartered plane crash in Ghatkopar says 'i saw brain and eyes pop out of burning body'

The tragic incident that took place when a small chartered plane crashed in Mumbai's Ghatkopar's populated area had taken the life of five. Where the whole country just saw the plane crash, the eyewitnesses saw a lot more. An eyewitness from Ghatkopar, who rang the bell and called the cops after a small plane crashed killing five persons on Thursday afternoon.

Babasaheb Umap, said, he how a fan blade from the aircraft hit the head of a pedestrian. And in no time the body was covered under a thick blanket of flame after fuel from the aircraft spilled on him.

“All I remember is seeing his brain and eyes pop out of his body and he was burning. But, before we could save him, there was fuel all around. We couldn’t do anything, which is why we quickly called the police and the ambulance,” said Umap. A mobile phone in pieces and a measuring tape were all that could be made out near the pedestrian’s body, later identified as Govind Dubey.

"There was a loud bang and then we saw the plane," said a teenager who lives in the neighbourhood.

A resident of an apartment complex, Patel Niwas, added: "We are used to planes flying overhead. We thought there was an explosion at the construction site. Only later we realized that a plane had crashed."

The chartered plane crashed the boundary wall of under construction residential complex. In no time after the collision, the plane burst into flames leaving an odd smell of aviation fuel across the area. Reportedly, aircraft parts like the engines, propellers and landing gear were completely burnt even before the fire brigade could reach the spot.

The pilot of the plane, Capt. Pradeep Rajput, woman pilot Capt. Mariya, woman aircraft maintenance engineer Surabhi, who was more than two months pregnant, and her colleague, an aircraft junior technician Manish Pandey, both of Indamer Aviation Pvt Ltd, died in the accident.

The plane, a Beechcraft King Air C 90 turboprop, was sold by the Uttar Pradesh government to a Mumbai-based UY aviation company in 2014. "The deal was done after the plane had met with an accident in Allahabad," UP official Avnish Awasthi was quoted as telling ANI.
