MP Fake Voters case: Plea of Congress' Kamal Nath, Sachin Pilot alleging fake voters, rejected by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed to two different petitions filed by the Congress' senior leaders Kamal Nath and Sachin Pilot over the fake voters in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. The petition was filed seeking directions to the Election Commission to provide the voters' list in the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in a text format.
A bench of justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan said, "We have dismissed these petitions".
The Assembly polls are all set to approach Madhya Pradesh and four other states by the end of November this year. The voting in Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to held on November 28 and in Rajasthan on December 7.
The top court has reserved it order on October 8 on the fake voters plea alleging the duplication of the voters in the list to ensure fair elections in the state.
The plea filed by Congress' senior leader Kamal Nath said that directions should be issued to publish the voters' lists in a "text format as per rules", instead of the PDF format.
The senior Congress leader has also said a direction should be issued to the poll panel to randomly verify the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips with votes cast on electronic voting machines (EVMs) at 10 per cent randomly-selected polling stations in every constituency, reported The Week.
