Motor Vehicle Act: Intoxicated man sets bike on fire after Delhi police issued challan for violating traffic rules
The new revision to the Motor Vehicle Act created a stir among motorists as Traffic police can charge heavy fines for the violation of traffic rules. A recent case from Delhi has come to light where a man allegedly set his motorbike on fire after Delhi Police issued a challan to him, ANI reported.
According to the Police, Delhi based man has been fined as he was in an inebriated condition which is a crime. Therefore, Police issued a challan to him for the violating traffic rules in Sheikh Sarai area, ANI reported.
As per the new rules, the fines for violating any norms under the new Motor Vehicles Act are minimum five times higher than what used to be earlier.
People who will be caught in drunk and drive case will be charged Rs 10,000 which was earlier Rs 2000.
Also, fine for traffic violations has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 500. While the penalty for driving without helmets is Rs 1,000 with the 3-month suspension of license.
This year, Parliament passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in July and also made the provisions for heavier penalties for traffic rule violations in an attempt to improve road safety. However, the bill came into force from September 1, 2019.
